What the house of the Part of Fortune says in your birth chart
The sign of the Part of Fortune says in what manner; the house says WHERE. And in this series the house has an advantage no other house on this site has.
It is the only house in the chart that barely moves when the birth time is wrong. Measured in São Paulo, every six hours across fifty years: one hour of error changes the house of the North Node in 50.1% of charts, and the house of the Part of Fortune in 5.5%. Four minutes of error change it in 0.3%. In every other house series the honest sentence is “without the exact time, the house is worthless”; here it is not.
And the measurement says why. In one hour the Ascendant moves 15.01 degrees — and the Part of Fortune moves 15.01 degrees. It travels with the Ascendant because it comes from it: the formula is the Ascendant plus the distance between the Moon and the Sun. Only the Moon opens a gap between the two, 0.51 degree per hour. From that comes an identity, not a coincidence: the distance from the Ascendant to the Part of Fortune IS the phase of the Moon. We checked it in 73,050 charts, with a worst-case difference of 0.0000000000002 degree.
And the house shares out evenly — each of the twelve receives the Part of Fortune around 8.3% of the time, with a maximum deviation from flat of 0.180 percentage point.
There is one large trap. The classical formula changes between day and night, and the two versions never fall in the same house — zero in 73,050 measurements. They mirror each other around the line of the Ascendant, so one is always on one side and the other on the other. Whoever uses the wrong formula does not get it wrong sometimes: they get it wrong always.
And a limit stated on the first screen, because the old name misleads: the Part of Fortune is not luck and does not promise money. What the modern reading describes is the place in the chart where a person recovers without spending strength.
What it means to have the Part of Fortune in the 12th house
The Part of Fortune in the 12th house puts rest in withdrawal: in what is not seen, what is not said and the time when nobody needs anything. It is the house of what stays behind — the retreat, sleep, what has no name. With the Part of Fortune here, a person recovers alone and unwitnessed, and in no company at all.
It is not the house of someone shy. It is the house of someone who needs a stretch of time in which she exists for nobody, and who usually spends years finding that request excessive.
And here is what hardly any text writes down: this is the hardest position to defend socially, and the one that most needs defending. It is a real resource in a hard situation: this person does not panic along with everyone, because the well she drinks from does not depend on the situation being good.
In practice that becomes three useful things: being near someone else’s pain without catching it, being well alone for long stretches and sensing what has not yet been said in a room.
That strength does best in a craft with a genuine stretch of solitude: research, art, care, writing, any work with a backstage. And it pays off badly in a routine of continuous exposure with no interval, because there the person never gets to replenish and slowly runs down.

At the New and the Full Moon it does not matter whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal: adding and subtracting zero is the same calculation, and the same holds for 180 degrees. At the quarters it does matter, and the swap is from one angle to the other. Whoever has the Part of Fortune in the 12th house was usually born at the New Moon of a nocturnal chart, or on the thin waning Moon of a diurnal one. In a nocturnal chart at the New Moon that calculation lands just before the Ascendant, which is the 12th house — the last stretch before the chart begins.
It is the dark phase, the one not seen in the sky — and it is the house not seen in the chart. Both say the same thing: there is a part of the cycle that works without showing.

What changes with time is not the person vanishing less: it is her no longer apologising for vanishing. At twenty, needing an invisible day looked like fussiness. Later it becomes the maintenance without which every other day gets worse.
