The excess is vanishing inside the other person: she walks into a room and leaves with the opinion, the mood and even the tiredness of whoever was nearby, without having noticed the exchange. It also shows up as a real difficulty saying no, which piles up into years of commitments she did not want.
The deficiency is the opposite: the person closed her outline by force and calls that having learned to defend herself. She turned dry, ironic and practical, and started treating her own sensitivity as a factory defect. What was left is a tiredness nobody explains, because her skill is still switched on — she just stopped using what she feels.

Every house has a pair, and the pair of 1 is house 7. They are not separate themes: they are the two ends of the same axis, and an excess on one shows up as a lack on the other. The 1st house pairs with the 7th, the other person. Whoever has Neptune here has a thin outline — and the bill arrives on the opposite end, as relationships in which she vanishes and then resents not having been seen.
When the 1st house gets too diffuse, the 7th becomes the compulsory mirror: the person only knows who she is by the reaction of whoever is near. And when the 1st hardens, the 7th is left with nobody inside it. The adjustment is having enough shape of one's own to fit beside another, and not instead of her.
How Neptune in the 1st house evolves over time
It matures when the person starts saying out loud what she wants — and that is worth more than any attempt to learn to be tougher. Sensitivity remains the talent; what changes is that it stops costing her own life in small daily surrenders.
And here there is a clock almost nobody names: the square of Neptune, around the age of 41.
