What an aspect is in the birth chart
An aspect is the distance between two pieces of the chart, measured in degrees — and that is what says whether they work together, ignore each other or fight. The previous series describe each piece on its own: the planet in the sign, the planet in the house. This one describes what happens between two of them.
There are five distances that tradition calls the major aspects: the conjunction (0°), the sextile (60°), the square (90°), the trine (120°) and the opposition (180°). Each has its own way of putting two pieces in contact, and none of them is good or bad — what exists is what each one charges and what each one delivers.
And there is the number almost no text gives: the orb. Two pieces at exactly 90° form a square; at 97°, they form nothing. This blog uses 6 degrees for the major aspects, and outside that they are two pieces in the same chart, which is another thing. That is why an aspect is not found out from the date: it needs the calculated chart.
And there is a reading order that changes everything, and that almost no site respects: the aspect comes last. It describes the relationship between two pieces, and there is no reading the relationship without knowing both. Whoever arrives here without having read each piece in the sign and in the house is reading the conversation without knowing who is speaking.
What Venus and Neptune mean together
The aspect between Venus and Neptune says how much of the real person you see. Venus is taste and affection. Neptune is what dissolves outline. In contact, the two produce someone who loves the other person's potential — and takes time to notice the difference between who she is and who she could be.
It is the most romantic aspect in the series and the most expensive. It gives a rare ability to love without calculation, and it gives, in the same piece, the difficulty of seeing a flaw while it can still be avoided.
And here is what hardly any text writes down: an aspect is a RELATIONSHIP, and not one more piece. It does not add a trait to your chart — it says how two traits already there get along with each other. And it explains the disappointment that always arrives at the same point: the person did not change; the image dissolved and let whoever was always there come into view.
It is worth giving the number before any reading, because without it there is no aspect: this blog uses a 6-degree orb for the major aspects. Outside that they are two pieces in the same chart, which is another thing. And the orb requires the calculated chart — and Neptune spends fourteen years in each sign, so it is Venus's position that decides whether there is an aspect, and it changes every month.
The conjunction of Venus and Neptune
The conjunction fuses affection with the fog: this person loves what she imagines. She is generous without charging for it, forgives a great deal and sees the best in whoever arrives. She tends to have a refined artistic taste and a sensitivity other people seek out.
The cost is idealisation, and it is not naivety: it is the Neptunian piece rubbing out the outlines. The fix is external — asking somebody on the outside what that person is doing, and listening to the answer.
The easy aspects: sextile and trine of Venus and Neptune
The sextile and the trine give enchantment with an outline: the person loves beautifully and still sees. She has real compassion, knows how to care without erasing herself and tends to have a rich aesthetic life — music, image, writing. Her affection is wide and it is not blind.
The cost is the little friction with her own fantasy. Whoever always managed to come back from the dream cannot recognise the moment when somebody does not — and is slow to believe anyone describing a relationship she herself would not live in.
The tense aspects: square and opposition of Venus and Neptune
The square and the opposition set affection against the fog — and out of that fight comes a person who loves generously and with her eyes open. The person falls in love with potential, puts up with what she should not in the name of love and confuses sacrifice with devotion. She tends to fall into unequal relationships where she gives far more.
The fix is simple to say and hard to do: looking at what the person DOES, and not at what she promises. Writing down on paper the facts of the last month, with no adjectives, tends to settle more than months of conversation.
How the aspect between Venus and Neptune shows up day to day
It shows up in the distance between the person she describes and the person her friends see. They are concrete signs, the kind one recognizes in one's own week — and they hold for any of this pair's aspects, because the subject is the same and what changes is the friction:

This does not show up the same way in two people with the same aspect. What changes is which signs and which houses the two pieces fell in, and how they get along with the rest of the chart.

This is the inversion most texts do not make, and it holds for every pair: what runs with no friction was never tested, and what bothers is what produces. The trine between Venus and Neptune delivers the result with no effort — and for that reason the person usually does not build the muscle, and finds that out on the day the ease is not enough. And the square delivers the opposite: a person who had to learn to look at what the other one does, and who for that reason loves generously and without losing herself.
In this pair the inversion costs at least one big disappointment, and it is honest to say so — the lesson does not usually arrive before it. It matures when the person learns to tell compassion apart from choice. It usually happens after a relationship in which she carried the other one for too long and discovered that putting up with something is not the same as loving.
Maturity here is not hardening nor becoming suspicious. It is the person staying generous and starting to decide by what she sees happen.

It says how those two pieces get along, and not who you are. Neptune spends fourteen years in each sign, so its sign belongs to half a generation; the aspect with your Venus is what is yours, and it changes within weeks.

How do I find out whether I have this aspect in my chart?
Only with the calculated chart. An aspect is a distance in degrees, and a degree cannot be estimated from the date: the two pieces have to be within 6 degrees of the exact distance for the aspect to exist. It is different from the sign, which the date gives — and it is why this series asks for the chart before any reading.
Is a tense aspect bad and an easy aspect good?
No, and that is the reading this blog refuses on every page. The easy aspect runs with no friction and for that reason was never tested — the person usually does not build the muscle, and finds that out on the day the ease is not enough. The tense one bothers, and it is the bother that produces. The biographies worth reading tend to be full of squares.
Is Venus with Neptune a sign of idealised love?
It is a sign of a blurred outline, and idealisation is what that produces. The same piece gives real compassion and the ability to love without calculation — the problem is not the feeling, it is that the information about the person loved arrives out of focus.

It counts, and more weakly the further it is from the exact degree. An aspect 1 degree off is a central piece of the chart; at 5 and a half degrees, it is one more trait. And that is why the difference between a calculated chart and an estimated one shows up here before it shows up anywhere else.
