What an aspect is in the birth chart
An aspect is the distance between two pieces of the chart, measured in degrees — and that is what says whether they work together, ignore each other or fight. The previous series describe each piece on its own: the planet in the sign, the planet in the house. This one describes what happens between two of them.
There are five distances that tradition calls the major aspects: the conjunction (0°), the sextile (60°), the square (90°), the trine (120°) and the opposition (180°). Each has its own way of putting two pieces in contact, and none of them is good or bad — what exists is what each one charges and what each one delivers.
And there is the number almost no text gives: the orb. Two pieces at exactly 90° form a square; at 97°, they form nothing. This blog uses 6 degrees for the major aspects, and outside that they are two pieces in the same chart, which is another thing. That is why an aspect is not found out from the date: it needs the calculated chart.
And there is a reading order that changes everything, and that almost no site respects: the aspect comes last. It describes the relationship between two pieces, and there is no reading the relationship without knowing both. Whoever arrives here without having read each piece in the sign and in the house is reading the conversation without knowing who is speaking.
What Venus and Pluto mean together
The aspect between Venus and Pluto says the intensity your desire carries. Venus is affection and taste. Pluto is what takes apart and rebuilds. In contact, the two produce someone for whom loving was never light: it is total involvement, or it is nothing — and that ruler runs before any decision.
It is the aspect of love that transforms, and the word holds in both senses: the relationship that reorganises a person's life for the better, and the one that takes it apart. Both come out of the same piece.
And here is what hardly any text writes down: an aspect is a RELATIONSHIP, and not one more piece. It does not add a trait to your chart — it says how two traits already there get along with each other. And it explains an effect whoever has it has already seen: this person's relationships rarely end lukewarm. They end in rupture, or they do not end.
It is worth giving the number before any reading, because without it there is no aspect: this blog uses a 6-degree orb for the major aspects. Outside that they are two pieces in the same chart, which is another thing. And the orb requires the calculated chart — and Pluto is the slowest of them all: it is Venus's position that decides whether there is an aspect, and it changes every month.
The conjunction of Venus and Pluto
The conjunction puts the depth inside desire: this person desires deeply. She has a magnetism others feel and cannot always name, chooses few people and chooses wholly. She tends to have lived early through a relationship that changed the course of her life.
The cost is jealousy and control, and it is worth saying plainly: it is not distrust of the other person, it is fear of losing what organises her from the inside. The fix is naming the fear before acting on it.
The easy aspects: sextile and trine of Venus and Pluto
The sextile and the trine give intensity with no torment: the person gives herself over and does not get lost. She loves deeply, can take the hard phases of a relationship and comes out of a break-up without falling to pieces. The force is in service of the bond.
The cost is never having been forced to examine her own intensity. Whoever always knew how to use that force does not know what it does when it gets loose — and tends to find out in a moment of loss, through a reaction she does not recognise as hers.
The tense aspects: square and opposition of Venus and Pluto
The square and the opposition set affection against power — and out of that fight comes a person who loves deeply and does not dominate. The person competes for power inside the relationship, tests the other one, and sometimes gets involved with somebody who has an advantage over her. Or she armours herself so as not to depend on anyone, which is the same piece inside out.
The fix goes through recognising the pattern out loud with whoever is on the other side. It is uncomfortable, and it is the only way for what this aspect has that is best — real depth — to come without what it has that is worst.

This is the inversion most texts do not make, and it holds for every pair: what runs with no friction was never tested, and what bothers is what produces. The trine between Venus and Pluto delivers the result with no effort — and for that reason the person usually does not build the muscle, and finds that out on the day the ease is not enough. And the square delivers the opposite: a person who had to look her own controlling side in the face, and who for that reason loves with a rare awareness.

How do I find out whether I have this aspect in my chart?
Only with the calculated chart. An aspect is a distance in degrees, and a degree cannot be estimated from the date: the two pieces have to be within 6 degrees of the exact distance for the aspect to exist. It is different from the sign, which the date gives — and it is why this series asks for the chart before any reading.
Is a tense aspect bad and an easy aspect good?
No, and that is the reading this blog refuses on every page. The easy aspect runs with no friction and for that reason was never tested — the person usually does not build the muscle, and finds that out on the day the ease is not enough. The tense one bothers, and it is the bother that produces. The biographies worth reading tend to be full of squares.
Does Venus with Pluto mean destructive relationships?
It means relationships that transform, and transformation goes both ways. The same piece produces the relationship that reorganises a life for the better and the one that takes it apart. What decides between them is not the aspect: it is what the person does with her own fear of losing.
Why do my relationships never end peacefully?
